PUDDY, PTE HENRY JOHN Reg. #256102

Henry John Puddy was born July 7, 1894 in Spence township (according to family historians), the son of Richard William Puddy and Mary Louisa Parker.

At the time of both the 1901 and 1911 censuses, the Puddy family was identified as living in Spence Twp. In 1911, Henry identified himself as a farmer.

On June 1,  1921 Henry married Nora Myrtle Pletzer . They had one son Henry Robert James Puddy born July 8,1923 in Spence Twp. Nora died in 1930.

Henry later married Zelpha Hazel Roy. They had four children.

Henry died February 7, 1981 in Burks Falls.

 Henry served in WWI in the 7th Canadian Siege Battery and again in WWII in No. 2 Company, Veterans Guard.

Henry enlisted in WWI on November 10, 1916 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. In his Attestation papers, Henry identified that he had actually been born in Brampton, Ontario. He identified his father as being Richard Puddy in Spence Twp. He listed his own occupation as Farm Labourer in Hodgeville, Saskatchewan.

In his Discharge Certificate, Henry John Puddy is identified as having enlisted November 10, 1916 in the 77th Battery, Can Field Artillery in Moose Jaw,

He is identified as having served in France and Belgium.

He was discharged May 11, 1919.

Henry arrived in England on April 24, 1917.

In July he was Taken on Strength with the 10th Siege Battery.

In March of 1918, the unit became known as the C.G.A. (Canadian Garrison Artillery - organization responsible for using large-calibre guns against heavily fortified positions)

In May, 1919 Henry returned to Canada.
